The fascination of cinema by vertical architecture has been repeated in many films since the dawn of this industry until today. Sketches of Frank Gehry is the first feature documentary by Syndney Pollack and the penultimate film he directed before his death in 2008 at 73 years of age. It is a co-production of the United States and Germany, 2005.
Taking as starting point the original notes that Gehry (Pritzker Award in 1989) made for each of his major projects, the documentary explores the process followed by the architect to transform this first abstract sketch into tangible material. In Spain, his best known work is the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, a building of titanium and glass.
The Vertical plane Cinema cycle is coordinated by Fernando Lara, journalist and film writer and former director of the International Film Festival of Valladolid. The films are screened in original version with subtitles.
