Vilafranca de Bonany is famous for its orchard and especially its dry melon, praised by the most exquisite gourmet. This delicious fruit is the protagonist of the XLII Melon Festival and the XIX Melon Fair, held on 1 and 2 September, respectively. The program includes many different activities during the two days.
Among those that will be celebrated on Saturday 1 stand out an equestrian exhibition, the Firó at night (a sample of crafts and local produce), the IX Contest of cossiols, Majorcan traditional dress parade of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and the verbena with the performance of Tomeu Penya & Gemini.
Sunday 2 is the nineteenth Melon Fair and Vilafranca is converted, from the early hours of the morning, into a large market. There will be a display of various exhibitions of handcraft, agricultural machinery, animal shows, carriages and, among others, curiosities like the exhibition of products from places across Europe that are also called Vilafranca.
In addition, there will be two contests of melons: for the biggest and for the best quality (see full program in related documents).
