The new wine sold in barrels, in bulk, is a tradition that in very few places is maintained and in Santa Maria is a tradition that has lasted over the years and has allowed to dignify the product among the local consumer. The creation in 2017 of the Vi Novell brand in Santa Maria make it possible to extend this product value in all the markets in which the Santamarian wine is present.
In this way, all the young wine bottled in Santa María will have the capsule with the image and the first place where you can taste it will be the Festa del Vi Novell. This festival is celebrated since 2003 with the purpose of promoting the wine of Santa Maria del Camí, with a long winemaking tradition.
This November, the Associació de Cellers de Santa Maria and the City Council of Santa Maria del Camí have made an institutional visit to the French region of Beaujolais, recognized for its novel wine and, like this Mallorcan village, celebrates every year a fiesta with which ends the wine campaign, which in his case takes place on the last Thursday of November.
The fiesta begins with the arrival at the plaza of the Vila of the carriage of the branches of pine that are delivered to the warehouses of the town so they hang them in the top of their main entrance, an old custom to announce the beginning of the sale of young wine.
The Fiesta includes the VIII Festa de la Tapa, with tasting of young wine and tapas in 16 venues of Santa Maria offering their specialties.
Saturday, November 17
10:30 h. The cellers, accompanied by the Colla de Gegants de Santa Maria and neighbors, will leave with tractors, trailers and the wine train to the pine forest of ses cases de Son Llaüt. There they will cut the pine branches that will serve to decorate the town.
