Formentor Sunset Classics programs two very unique concerts this summer in a privileged location overlooking the bay of Formentor, in northern Mallorca. The last one has as protagonist the famous Indian director Zubin Mehta who will conduct the Orchestra Maggio Musicale Fiorentina of Florence. The program focuses on three works by Beethoven: Egmont Overture, Symphony No. 8 and Symphony No. 3 'Eroica'.
Zubin Mehta (Bombay, 1936), son of violinist Mehli Mehta, founder of the Bombay Symphony Orchestra, made his directorial debut in Vienna in 1958. That same year he won the International Competition of musical direction in Liverpool and was appointed assistant conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of the English city.
Has been musical director of, among others, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and since 1981 he is the lifelong music director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Renowned for his vigorous style and extravagant musical conduction, Mehta has performed with orchestras around the world and is one of the most international figures of the classical music scene.
He is also recognized for his labor to build bridges between Arabs and Israelis, which he carries out through Mifne project, founded by the maestro in 2009. In this foundation Western classical music is taught to young Arabs and Jews and his dream is to form the Arab-Israeli -Indian Philharmonic Orchestra.
