Anton Chekhov was only 27 when in 1887 he was commissioned by entrepreneur Korx to write Ivanov, his first play in four acts. It is one of his less represented, but also the most comic of the Russian playwright.
Somni Productions now stages this production directed by Sergi Baths where the protagonist, Alexéievitx Nikolai Ivanov, is a representative of Russian liberalism dominated by indolence and apathy. He does not love his wife nore his lover and also doesn’t enjoy the company of his friends. To Chekhov Ivanov was a reflection of a decadent society which is ending.
