The Consell de Mallorca celebrates the World Audiovisual Heritage Day with the screening of the film El jefe político (1926) directed by André Hugon. The projection is accompanied by live music by the composer and performer Miquel Brunet.
The collaboration between the Arxiu del So i de la Imatge de Mallorca and the Spanish Film Library has resulted in the recovery of this film by Hugon, one of the pioneers of French cinema. In 1999, the Consell de Mallorca acquired the only copy of the film available to date, making it possible to restore it in order to be exhibited.
The protagonist is Leopoldo Quintana, a Mallorcan lawyer with great ambition. The businessman Sebastián Gocho will help him in his political career in a way that both benefit mutually. Quintana wins the deputy seat through election manipulation and crime. Already in Madrid, he and Gocho make a fortune using influence peddling and bribery.
El jefe político, an adaptation of the novel by José María Carretero, is played by René Navarre, Colette Darfeuil, Camille Bert, James Devesa, José Durany, Alexiane, Alexis Gashne and Joaquín Carrasco. Languages: Catalan and Spanish.
