The XXXVIII Opera Season of the Teatre Principal presents Roméo et Juliette, an opera by Charles Gounod with a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré based on Shakespeare's tragedy, although they simplified the plot and eliminated characters. It consists of a prologue and five acts, and was premiered in April 1867 at the Théâtre-Lyrique Impérial du Châtelet in Paris.
This production by the Opèra Comique of Paris, with sets by Comédie Française, has musical direction by Franck Villard, stage direction and set design by Éric Ruf and choreography by Glyslein Lefever. The Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears and the Cor del Teatre Principal, directed by Francesc Bonnín, take part.
