With only a few weeks away from the finish of the harvest season of the pumpkin, this Fira de Tardor (Autumn Fair ) of Muro dedicates a lot of the limelight to this vegetable. It starts on Thursday 7 with the presentation of the book Varietats locals de les Illes Balears and there will be activities until Sunday 10.
On Friday, 8 will be celebrated the VIII Muestra de vinos (Wine sampling) and cheese tasting in the cloister of the convent in which will participate thirteen wineries and nine brands of cheese, most of them from Menorca. The sample is held at night and will feature performances of vocalist Marta Domingo and pianist Jerome Alenyar.
One of the curiosities of this event is the procession of lanterns made out of pumpkins on Saturday 9, in which the biggest and most original will be awarded. This day also marks the III Muestra de Cocina Murera (show of Muro cuisine) in the cloister of the convent in which participate bars and restaurants from the village with sweet and savory dishes made from the vegetable that reign in this fair.
Sunday the 10th is the day of the actual fair and on and around the Plaça Major there will be stalls filled with candy, toys, fruits , nuts , vegetables , plants and all kinds of Mallorcan products. It also celebrates the VII Pumpkin Contest, which sets out the categories of native and non-native.
