The second proposal of the XXXV Opera Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma is Il trovatore, the great classic that Giuseppe Verdi composed with a libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, which had been based on the drama El trovador by Antonio García Gutiérrez. Cammarano died before the work was finished, allowing Verdi to make numerous changes commissioned by the young librettist Leone Emanuele Bardare.
This opera, with a plot as novel as it is convoluted, is set at the beginning of the 15th century in a Crown of Aragon in conflict over various suitors after the death without issue of Martín el Humano.
This play of Il trovatore is a production of Teatro Villamarta de Jerez, with musical direction by Matteo Beltrami and stage direction by Marta Eguilior. Cast: The Count of Luna (Àngel Òdena), Leonora (Sae-Kyung Rim), Azucena (Nino Surguladze), Manrico (Gastón Rivero), Ferrando (Manuel Fuentes), Inés (Marga Cloquell), Ruiz (Joan Gabriel Riera). The Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands and the Cor del Teatre Principal, directed by Pere Víctor Rado, will take part. Language: Italian, with Catalan, Spanish and English subtitles.
