Lawrence Carroll, ‘In the world I live’

This is the title of the exhibition of Australian artist of Irish origin Lawrence Carroll (Melbourne, 1954) presents in Casal Solleric. Organized and produced in collaboration with the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin, this is the largest retrospective ever launched and includes works dating between 1984 and 2012, among which are unpublished pieces from the personal collection of the artist, paintings and sculptures from private collections, some of them from Mallorca.

Defined as a storyteller through objects that are often incorporated into his paintings and sculptures, the work of Carroll proposes a set of deep contemplative humanist roots and finds its main references in the European tradition of Arte Povera and American minimalism

As if to reproduce the natural aging process of matter, his paintings have been subjected to a long process of transformation. Cuts, stitches, folds, frozen and even occupied with the most varied objects (lamps, shoes, gloves, plastic flowers, fabrics, etc..), They show respect of the artist for the things lived, felt and that are part of the human landscape .

Closely related to Italy, where the artist lives at times, Carroll's work is part of the prestigious collection Paza and has been featured in renowned institutions. Recently the artist has been selected for a specific intervention of the flag of the Vatican Museums within the next Venice Biennale in 2013.
