One of the peaks of the bel canto, in a spectacular assembly of the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples, is the penultimate proposal of the 32th Opera and Ballet Season of the Teatre Principal of Palma. No character of Bellini has the dramatic force of Norma, elevated to the eternity of the lyrical genre by arias like Casta Diva, her prayer to the moon.
In Norma, the Italian composer Vicenzo Bellini, supported by the libretto by Felice Romani, combines the Greek tragedy, the Celtic cult of nature and the remorse of Shakespearean's Lady Macbeth. The stage director Lorenzo Amato explodes this collage of references with spectacular projections (audiovisual by Sergio Metalli), a stark realism and the monumental scenery of Ezio Frigerio, with costumes by Franca Squarciapino.
In the pit, Andrés Salado directs to the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears, also taking part the Cor del Teatre Principal in Palma, under the direction of Pere Víctor Rado.
