The second proposal of the 23è Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla takes us into the roots of Cuban music with this project by Richard Bona (Camerun, 1967), one of the musicians who have best blended the sounds and traditions of his native Africa, European influence and the best American jazz.
Surrounded by six musicians from the island, in Mandekan Cubano Richard Bona - bass player, singer and multi-instrumentalist - intends to explore the relationship between West African music, from which came the slaves who would revolutionize music across the ocean, and Cuban traditions, direct heirs of the African rhythm.
In Sa Pobla he is accompanied by the Quintero brothers, excellent percussionists, young Osmany Paredes, considered ambassador of Cuban music, the famous Cuban trumpeter Dennis Hernández, trombonist Rey David Alejandre, essential in the best jazz-fussion orchestras, and Ludwig Afonso, a drummer who works with several New York musicians.
Richard Bona (bass and vocals), Ludwig Alfonso (drums), Osmany Paredes (piano), Luisito Quintero (percussion), Roberto Quintero (percussion), Rey Alejandre (trombone) and Dennis Hernández (trumpet).
