The great international regatta that opens the season: more than 1,100 sailors and all Olympic classes heading to Los Angeles 2028
The Princess Sofía Trophy is the big “start” of Olympic sailing in Mallorca: for several days, the Bay of Palma is filled with elite boats and sailors competing in the Olympic classes (ILCA 6 and 7, 470 mixed, 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17, Formula Kite and iQFOiL, among others).
In 2026 it will be held from March 27 to April 4, with the Medal Racesclosing the trophy on 4 April.
✅ Why go
It is a very “Mallorca” plan and very special even if you are not a fan of sailing: promenade with a real sports atmosphere, international teams, and the bay full of sails.
Ideal to combine with a walk through Portixol/Molinar or a meal in front of the sea.
📍 Data
Key date:
- March 27 - 29: inaugural regattas (cruises, inclusive classes, one-designs)
- March 30 - April 4: Olympic class competition
- April 4: medal races (finals)
Place: Bay of Palma (main base in the area around the Real Club Náutico de Palma)
What to see: Olympic class regattas and final days with Medal Races (April 4)
Where to watch it for FREE:
- Observation points: The natural areas of the coast of Palma, especially the Paseo Marítimo, the Cathedral area and the Parc de la Mar, offer excellent panoramic views of the fleet.
- Yacht clubs: The organizing clubs (Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Náutico Arenal, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa) usually allow access to the spectator areas to watch the preparation and departure of the sailors.
- Best location: As it is a competition in the open sea within the bay, any high point or beach in the area of Palma, Can Pastilla or s'Arenal will allow you to watch the competition for free.
💡 Practical tip
The best times to “see action” are usually when the breeze comes in and the fleets are already in regatta mode: bring sunglasses, some light clothing (the bay is cool) and opt for viewpoints on the promenade with an open view of the bay.
