Every September, Santa Ponça once again becomes the stage where the legend comes to life: the Landing of King James I In 1229, the beginning of the Mallorca we know today was established. 📖 The story

In 1229, the troops of King James I landed in the bay of Santa Ponça to begin the conquest of the island, an event that forever redefined the social and cultural landscape of Mallorca. The Creu de Santa Ponça still marks the landing site today, and every year the giant figures of James I and Queen Violant once again serve as ambassadors of this legacy.

Wednesday, August 26: Opening of the Premis Rei En Jaume 2026 exhibition at the Calvià Town Hall Exhibition Hall. It can be visited until October 31, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Thursday 08.27: commemorative event of the 797th anniversary, with proclamation by Carlos Luis Fuentes Gómez, Creu de Santa Ponça, 8 p.m.

Friday, August 28: III Popular Mixed 4x4 Beach Volleyball Tournament and III Frontenis Tournament; concert night «Rockers del regne» (Frankensteel, Lumina, Born, DJ Jimenetas), Plaza de la Pinada, from 10pm.

Saturday 29.08: XXV Trobada de Gegants de Calvià, start at 7 p.m., and popular dance with Música Nostra at 10 p.m., Plaza de la Pinada.

Sunday, August 30: Presentation of banners and introduction of the Kings of the Festival, 8 pm, followed by Filum Ludum in concert at 9:30 pm, Plaza de la Pinada.

Monday, August 31: Caricaturist (7-10 pm) and children's foam party with children's disco, Plaza de la Pinada, 8 pm.

Tuesday 01.09: historical reenactment «1231: d'Al Mayurqa to the Corona d'Aragó» in the Archaeological Park of sa Morisca (5:30 p.m.-8 p.m.) and Nit de Foc amb Dimonis de Calvià at 10 p.m.

Wednesday, September 2nd: Theatrical cultural tour of the landing (pre-registration required) and cinema on the beach: Wicked: For Good, Pinada square, 9:30 p.m.

Thursday 03.09: medieval market (12 to 1 a.m.) and lecture by historian Tomàs Vibot at the Puig de sa Morisca, 7 p.m.

Friday, September 4th: Medieval market, Moorish parade (starts 7 pm), comedy night with Clara Ingold and Paloma de Parque (10 pm) and Jaleo Fest (11:30 pm), Plaza de la Pinada.

Saturday, September 5th: Nordic walking and the XXXI Sheep Cup Swimming Crossing in the morning; medieval market; gathering of Moorish troops, landing of Christian troops and first battle at the Creu de Santa Ponça (5:30 p.m.) and parade of Moors and Christians (6 p.m.); grand evening of concerts (Gramola, Ye-Ye Party, Studio 54 Party), Pinada square, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Sunday, September 6th: Medieval market; Final Battle on Santa Ponça beach; solemn mass and Ball de l'Oferta (7.30 pm); Blue Groove Quintet in concert (9 pm); closing fireworks on the beach (10.30 pm).

From 10.09 to 12.09: XL Rei En Jaume Regatta, starting from the Salou Nautical Club and arriving at the Santa Ponça Yacht Club, with the awards ceremony at Port Adriano.

ℹ️ Recommendations: For the Nit de Foc (Night of Fire), attendees must wear old cotton clothing with sleeves, long trousers, athletic shoes, and a cotton scarf around their neck; throwing water or using personal fireworks is prohibited. The cultural route on September 2nd requires prior registration at cultura@calvia.com or by calling 971 139 181 (limited spaces available). The weekend of September 5th and 6th sees the largest crowds; arriving early is recommended.

📖 The party

A week that combines tradition and community participation: children's and nighttime gymkhanas, truc tournaments, film screenings with historical images of the town, watercolor workshops in the cove, choral concerts and the Gran Nit de Varietés with local talents.

After the main day, the festivities continue with a popular walk to Sa Torreta and the 13th Serra de Tramuntana Race, the following weekend.

Friday 11.09: stargazing evening with Amado Carbonell, president of the Mallorca Astronomical Observatory, at Sa Mola (11 pm).

Saturday 12.09: guided hike along the Rota de Son Cotoner, starting from s'Escopidor (9.30 am); closing Festó with a shared dinner and prize-giving for the house decoration contest (9 pm), Sa Plaça.

ℹ️ Good to know

The house decoration contest runs from 28 August to 8 September; prizes are awarded at the Festó on 12 September (1st prize €100, 2nd prize €50, five participation prizes of €20 each).

Several activities require advance booking: the Dimoni de Neu workshop (tallerinfantilag@gmail.com), the Sa Mola Gran nature session (custodis.samolagran@gmail.com by 31 August) and the football fan club dinner (Jaume Pujol, +34 608 531 330).

The water castles on 06.09 may be cancelled if there are water restrictions in the municipality; updates will be posted on Amics de Galilea's Facebook and Instagram.

Cas Català and Illetes send off the summer in style: three days of neighbourhood festivities in Plaza Conquesta, with bouncy castles, open-air cinema, 80s, 90s and 2000s music until three in the morning, and traditional Mallorcan games. 🥁🎶

Designed for children aged 6 to 12 and promoted by the Consell de Mallorca.

🏘️ A neighbourhood celebration

Cas Català and Illetes is one of Calvià's coastal villages, between Palma and Portals. Its September festival is among the last of the municipal calendar and works as a farewell to summer: a weekend when the square becomes a meeting point for residents and visitors alike.

ℹ️ Good to know: outdoor activities. For Friday's film screening, bring a chair or blanket. Parking in the area is limited. Activities are mainly in Spanish and Catalan, though music and games need no translation.

Three free days of music, cinema and games to close the summer on the Calvià coast.

ℹ️ Recommendations: Bunyola is small and gets crowded, especially on the weekend of the Correguda. The train from Sóller stops in the village and is the most convenient option. Many events are in Catalan.
