More than a festive day, the Diada commemorates a foundational moment. September 12, 1276King Jaume II swore the Privilegis i Franqueses menu in the church of Santa Eulàlia, an act linked to the creation of Kingdom of Majorca and to the development of rights and institutions that shaped the island for centuries.

One of this year's highlights comes the night before. Friday, September 11 at 9:30 p.m., the Mallorcan artist Rels B offers a great free concert in Parc de la Mar, organized jointly by the Consell de Mallorca and the Palma City Council within the Diada program.

🏅 Awards, Honors and Distinctions

The central institutional event is the Premis, Honors and Distinctions of Mallorca 2026, which are held on September 12 at the Teatre Principal de Palma.

These awards recognize individuals and organizations for their contributions to society, culture, and the island's international standing. In 2026, the following will be awarded: 27 people and entities, among them Rels B and Concha Buika, who will be named Favorite Sons of Mallorca.

The Diada traditionally extends throughout the island, with cultural programming on the days September 11 and 12Activities in the Serra de Tramuntana on the 12th and the Diada concert by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands at the Teatre Principal on September 18.

📖 The story

In 1229, the troops of King James I landed in the bay of Santa Ponça to begin the conquest of the island, an event that forever redefined the social and cultural landscape of Mallorca. The Creu de Santa Ponça still marks the landing site today, and every year the giant figures of James I and Queen Violant once again serve as ambassadors of this legacy.

After the main day, the festivities continue with a popular walk to Sa Torreta and the 13th Serra de Tramuntana Race, the following weekend.

One of Mallorca's most beautiful mountain villages is gearing up for its patron saint festivities: over two weeks of art, music, traditions, and fine dining filling the streets of Fornalutx. 🎉🏔️

From August 27 to September 12, the program kicks off with sports, the Summer Carnival and the Night of Art, before the main festivities take over the town from September 4 onwards with the Davallada del Bou, open-air dances, solemn mass and the traditional open-air dinner.

La Beata is one of the most unique festivals in Mallorca: almost three weeks in Santa Margalida in honor of Santa Catalina Tomàs, with its famous procession considered the most typical on the island. 🔥🌸

The Consell de Mallorca is processing the declaration of these processions in honor of Saint Catherine Tomàs (Palma, Valldemossa, and Santa Margalida) as an Intangible Cultural Heritage Asset. The program includes the children's procession, fun runs, a pub crawl, live music, and the 11th Gathering of Giants, which closes the festivities on September 13th.

Cas Català and Illetes is one of Calvià's coastal villages, between Palma and Portals. Its September festival is among the last of the municipal calendar and works as a farewell to summer: a weekend when the square becomes a meeting point for residents and visitors alike.

ℹ️ Good to know: outdoor activities. For Friday's film screening, bring a chair or blanket. Parking in the area is limited. Activities are mainly in Spanish and Catalan, though music and games need no translation.

To the rhythm of xeremies and tamborí, the lords and ladies of the manor proceed to the church to hang the flag, in remembrance of the estates of Son Bassa, Son Llampaies, and Son Odre. The festivities conclude with a traditional dance, a barbecue of botifarrons (Catalan sausages), the Monkey Doo Swing Band, and a rum bonfire.

Cercavila with xeremiers (11.00 a.m.), solemn office in the Església de Santa Tecla presided over by the bishop of Mallorca Sebastià Taltavull (11.30 a.m.) and popular refreshment. In the afternoon, Correguda de Joies on Pare Francesc Bonafé street (1:30 p.m.), children's entertainment with Cucorba Group (6:00 p.m.) and, at 9:00 p.m., the Grup de Teatre Aficionat de Biniamar stages On ets?by Toni Oliver i Garau. The festivities end with the pyromusical.

📖 The party

The program includes the Bot des Cavall (a traditional equestrian display), a piano concert by candlelight, sporting tournaments, a horse parade, and a Woody Allen play on the main day. The festivities continue until the end of September with the Mobyletada and the Quintades.
