The Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca presents a new exhibition by the artist Carlos Bunga (Porto, 1976), one of the most singular voices in contemporary art. His work moves between disciplines such as architecture, painting, sculpture, and performance, constantly exploring the boundaries between making and unmaking, the ephemeral and the permanent. 🎨

This exhibition revolves around theFire as a symbol of change, regeneration, and purificationAn ambivalent element: capable of destroying, but also of giving way to new life cycles.

Throughout history, fire has been used in a controlled manner in agricultural practices and rituals, from transforming the land to traditional ceremonies such as theSt. John's Evewhich coincides with thesummer solstice. 🌞🔥

The exhibition period includes precisely this symbolic date, theJune 23, when various cultures celebrate rituals linked to light, fertility and renewal.

🧵 Dialogue with Joan Miró and crafts

For this project in Mallorca, Bunga establishes a dialogue with the universe ofJoan Miró, especially with his interest in theeveryday objects, crafts, and manual processes, present in their homes and studios.

The artist works with humble materials such ascardboard, adhesive tape or fabricscreating installations that, despite their apparent fragility, highlight the creative process as an almost performative action.

The project invites the visitor to experience a complete transformation process:what is, what is transformed, and what remains afterwardswith fire as the symbolic guiding thread of the entire exhibition.
