Chopin Recital - Juan Carlos Fernández Nieto

The figure of Frédéric Chopin will be the focus of a unique evening combining musicological reflection and a live musical experience. Next Saturday, May 9th, at 6:00 PM, a discussion dedicated to the Polish composer will take place, moderated by Antoni Pizà and featuring the participation of leading international specialists: John Rink, Moritz Weber, and Francisco Javier Albo.

This symposium, which will be conducted mostly in English, will offer a deep and multidisciplinary look at the work, interpretation and legacy of Chopin, bringing together leading voices in the field of musicology and contemporary music criticism.

The session will culminate with a piano recital by Juan Carlos Fernández Nieto, whose solid international career and interpretive sensitivity place him as one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation.

👥Participants

Juan Carlos Fernández Nieto

A Spanish-American pianist with a distinguished international career, he has performed as a soloist with major orchestras in Europe and America. His international acclaim was solidified after his Carnegie Hall debut. He has won prizes in prestigious competitions and has maintained an active recording and concert career.

John Rink

A renowned musicologist, he has published extensively on musical performance, 19th-century music, and digital musicology. He is editor-in-chief ofThe Complete Chopin: A New Critical EditionHe has also directed important research projects such as Chopin Online. Since 2015, he has been a member of the jury for the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition.

Moritz Weber

A pianist, teacher, and cultural journalist, she combines her artistic activity with musical analysis and dissemination. She regularly collaborates with the Swiss public radio station SRF 2 Kultur, and her research on Chopin has garnered international acclaim. Her interest in original sources led her to study Polish to delve deeper into the composer's correspondence.

Antoni Pizà

A musicologist and popularizer, he is the driving force behind this event. He has taught at institutions such as Hofstra University, the City University of New York, and the Balearic Islands Higher Conservatory of Music. He currently directs the Foundation for Iberian Music at the Graduate Center (CUNY).

Francisco Javier Albo

With a doctorate in musicology from the City University of New York, he has focused his research on the reception of Chopin's music in the 19th century. His work combines historical study with contemporary perspectives on musical performance and perception.
