📖 The Evolutionary Leap from Theropods to Birds

The evolutionary transition between theropod dinosaurs and birds has been a major challenge and a heated debate throughout the history of paleontology. For a long time, this uncertainty stemmed from a scarce fossil record worldwide prior to 1980. Since then, however, key discoveries have surged exponentially.

This talk highlights findings from the Iberian plate and the Pyrenees, where exceptionally preserved, articulated maniraptoran specimens have been uncovered. Dr. Buscalioni will examine not only the anatomy of flight, but also the growth, physiology, reproduction, and habitats of the flying dinosaurs from which the first birds evolved.

🔬 Angela D. Buscalioni and the "Tierra de gigantes" Series

The lecture is led by Angela D. Buscalioni, PhD in Sciences specializing in paleobiology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where she serves as professor of paleontology and director of CIPb-UAM. With over a hundred publications, she is renowned for her research on the Las Hoyas site.

ℹ️ Good to know: Suitable for all audiences. The approximate duration of the activity is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
