Festival Internacional Chopin de Valldemossa

3 Bewertunge

This is the first of the festivals, created in Europe in memory of Frédéric Chopin. It started in 1930 by initiative of the Mallorcan composer Joan Maria Thomàs, to remember the stay in Valldemossa in the winter of 1838-1839, of the Polish composer and the French writer George Sand. In its early years, the festival featured the presence of significant composers and performers of the first half of the twentieth century like Arthur Rubinstein, Alexandre Uninsky or Pau Casals. But during the Franco dictatorship it disappeared and did not resume its activity until 1981, when it also opened to contemporary art.

Josep Guinovart, Albert Rafols-Casamada, Toni Catany or Miquel Barceló, are among the artists who designed posters and handbills. Held in August in the cloister of the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa, of which cell number 4 is the Chopin Museum.
